EXCITING BREAKTHROUGH FOR HEADACHE SUFFERERS: THESE “TRIGGER FOODS” ARE PROVEN TO CAUSE HEADACHES.

by admin

Extensive studies have revealed that 10% of chronic headaches are caused by certain foods, often referred to as “trigger” foods. Most often the headache is a reaction to a chemical in the food, which causes the blood vessels in the head to expand or contract, causing pain. Here are several of the foods that can cause headaches:

1) Aged cheese, liver, nuts, bananas, sour cream, yogurt and freshly baked bread— these foods all contain the chemical tyramine which can also be found in pickled foods such as relish and beets.

2) Chocolate— contains the chemical phenylethylamine.

3) Cured meats such as bacon, ham, bologna, salami, and hot dogs— these foods all contain nitrates.

4) Some meat tenderizers and Chinese food— these can contain momosodium glutamate (MSG), a flavor enhancer (also found in some canned soups and TV dinners).

You can determine if your headaches are being caused by the food you eat by giving up all potential trigger foods. Once you do this, wait about 30 days and if you still experience the same type of headaches, your problem is not being caused by your choice of foods. However, if your headaches become less intense or they occur less often, food most likely does play a role. To find out if there is a specific food causing your headaches, reintroduce large quantities of one trigger food. If your headaches flare up, you’ve found a culprit. Continue this method until you’ve tested each food.
